Elaine Didn’t Choose Accounting – Accounting Chose Her!
Elaine began her career as an accountant by luck. As an undergraduate, she studied business and fine arts. Accounting courses were not her favorite. After graduation, she took an administrative job in the tax department of a CPA firm. Recognizing Elaine’s potential, the partners offered her a position as a tax accountant. She took the required accounting courses and passed the CPA exam, also recently completing her Masters in Taxation. Guess the partners were right!
Throughout her studies, Elaine recognized that for some people, accounting can be a difficult subject to grasp. She thought, “If only there was a way to make it fun and exciting!” Well, she got her chance. After striking up a conversation with a person next to her on a flight, fate again pointed Elaine to accounting as an Adjunct Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
As a Training Specialist with GAAP Dynamics, Elaine combines her love for art and graphic design with her enthusiasm for accounting by creating visually appealing and instructionally sound instructor-led and eLearning training materials in U.S. GAAP and IFRS. As a result of her past experience with accounting courses, Elaine aims to make her training fun, and creatively presents accounting concepts to cater to different learning styles.
Outside of work, Elaine loves spending time with her husband and three kids. They travel to New England often to visit family and friends. On the weekends, you can find her binging on TV shows, spending time outdoors with her family, and working on her next certification as a sommelier.
