Custom eLearning Design: Review Questions in Articulate Storyline 2

In this post, we’ll explore a few tips and tricks for custom eLearning design when it comes to developing your own customized review questions in Articulate Storyline 2. The first question you may have when thinking of developing a custom eLearning review question is, why? Especially when Articulate Storyline 2 comes fully-loaded with pre-programmed review questions of its own. So, why go through the hassle of creating your own? Our answer: Why be average, when you were born to standout!

Creating your own customized review questions allows your course to stand out amongst the masses. Not only that, but it gives the programmer more control over the functionality of the questions and more control over the learner experience… and learners will certainly appreciate that. For example, we have customized our multiple choice questions to provide custom feedback boxes that the learner can view while still on the base layer. Now that you understand why, your next question should be, how? To help answer that question, we’ve created this brief tutorial on how to develop your own customized eLearning review questions within Articulate Storyline 2.

In our tutorial, we demonstrated how to customize a multiple-choice question, but you can customize a variety of different questions, such as:

  • True or false
  • Matching
  • Fill-in-the- blank; or
  • Any other type of common interaction!

Developing your own interactions allow you to be as creative as you want and it can help you incorporate your company’s or client’s branding into the course. Need some other ideas on ways to get creative? Check out this post on how to get the creative juices flowing. There are many ways to customize a question, including:

  • Adding animations
  • Using custom colors
  • Adding graphics
  • Using non-standard shapes
  • Formatting the elements of the question to better serve your purposes

However, the most important part of customizing a review question is making sure the triggers and states are functioning. The idea behind a custom eLearning design can be great in theory but if it doesn’t work properly, it’s not benefiting the learner.

We hope you found our tutorial helpful and if you need any more ideas on how to spice up your eLearning read this post. To see more examples of what you can do in Articulate Storyline 2, check out one of our favorite Storyline resources, eLearning Heroes.
