Meet the Newest Members of GAAP Dynamics!

The past two years have completely rocked the workplace, and the learning and development (L&D) industry was no exception. From COVID to quickly rising inflation, from the great resignation to the great return, the workforce has been a tumultuous place. In the learning and development (L&D) community, virtual learning quickly became the only type of learning, making virtual instructor-led training (VILT) and eLearning the focus as companies rushed to create virtual learning experiences and replace traditional classroom-based programs. Now that things are starting to ease up, we’re seeing that people are not in a rush to head back to the office to work or to head back on the road to train at some big conference center. Through this journey, we’ve seen that the demand for people with the skills to develop and deploy eLearning and VILT has skyrocketed. While we were not spared the effects of the “Great Resignation” we have been able to build an amazing team that is ready to tackle the future of learning in what is bound to be an environment that blends the best of on-site training and virtual learning experiences. Let’s meet the new faces that have joined forces with the Digital Marketing and Learning Specialist (DMLS) Team here at GAAP Dynamics to create powerful and engaging virtual learning solutions!

The Educators

Carlo: Learning from the past to shape eLearning’s future

Carlo received his B.S. in Marketing at Virginia Tech, but later discovered his passion for education through substitute teaching. This drove him to pursue a Master’s in Curriculum and Instructional Design with a focus in Secondary Social Studies.

Carlo joined our team after starting his career as a middle school teacher. Carlo taught 7th grade U.S. History for three years where he gained experience in designing and implementing engaging lessons, and found great joy in supporting his students and watching them grow as historical thinkers.

Carlo looks for opportunities to hone his instructional design skills and apply them within a new eLearning industry, while also renewing his interest in marketing. He has found a home with the DMLS Team at GAAP Dynamics where he is excited to bring his experiences and expertise into creating engaging and relevant eLearning to help those in the accounting industry stay at the forefront of their field.

Outside of work, you can find Carlo on the hardwood at the gym playing pickup basketball or learning a new skill – beginner piano. He also loves to explore Richmond and enjoy days on the James River with his girlfriend, Morgan, and their dog, Frito, followed by cozying up at home with their two cats, Rex and Jasper.

Superpower(s): Instructional design and digital marketing. Carlo is an analytical mind who has already proven to be a strong asset by questioning the status quo and challenging us to improve our eLearning products. I am excited to see what happens when we put his analytical and critical thinking skills to use in the digital marketing arena as well!

Kenzie: Jumping out of the classroom and into the adult, eLearning space!

With a background in elementary education, McKenzie is bringing her creativity and passion for learning to the GAAP Dynamics team. A graduate from Longwood University with a BS in Liberal Studies and a Master’s of Education in Reading and Literacy, she utilizes her “Lifelong learner” mentality while also bringing in creative learning strategies straight from the classroom! McKenzie also brings in marketing knowledge from creating social media posts for her family’s team of realtors. She thrives on being able to not only help others see their full potential, but to also help them market their success on various platforms.

When she’s not in the office, you can find McKenzie exploring new hiking trails with her husband and their dog, reading a new mystery novel, or lying on the beach– soaking up the sun! She loves taking road trips to new places while blasting old- school (does early 2000’s count as old- school, yet?) Justin Bieber and Avril Lavigne songs. As a military brat, she has traveled and lived many places but still longs to visit countries such as Ireland, Greece, and Brazil.

Superpower(s): Organizational skills and written communication. McKenzie is the girl to keep our team on task and on budget. She’s also got some serious grammar skills. We look forward to leveraging her Master’s of Education to improve the instructional design of our virtual programs and help break down the content for the learners…almost as if we were explaining it to a child!

The Creators

Clark: An ear to the ground on exciting and effective eLearning

Clark is a graduate of James Madison University, studying both Political Science and Media. He holds interests in all forms of media, but specifically podcasting, for its ability to entertain and educate through sound alone. Throughout his college career he was a member of the marching band, The Marching Royal Dukes, and a brother of Phi Mu Alpha, a national music fraternity, contributing to his love of sound and art.

Clark has worked both professionally and personally in the podcasting world, editing for a small company in DC as well as producing his own podcast with friends from high school.

As a member of the DMLS team at GAAP Dynamics, Clark enjoys the ability to create educational media with a fun and spirited twist to keep the learners engaged and ready to learn more.

Superpower(s): Audio and Video. I’ve so enjoyed being able to compare notes on the process for editing audio for eLearning and comparing it to Clark’s process for pod-casting. He’s also been instrumental in helping shoot some new videos for our website (keep an eye out for those soon!) and I look forward to seeing how he helps to shape and grow our media presence!

Rian: Searching for the end of an eLearning rainbow

Rian’s professional career started after graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2010 with a BFA. While attending university, she majored in Kinetic Imaging (video, animation, and sound design) and minored in Painting and Printmaking. Rian has since expanded her resume to include video production, motion graphics, graphic design, teaching, illustration, and social media marketing.

After traveling to seventeen countries for a year with her husband and 4-year old son in 2017, Rian returned to Richmond, VA invigorated with a new mission to follow her passions and create her own “American Dream.” Rian co-owns and does art direction for HearRVA, a music platform encouraging fans to love the music coming from their own city and help make it global. She also has used her artwork for activism and co-created Richmond Now!, a free coloring activity book series that highlights Richmond’s community groups that are continuously doing the hard work to help the area's minority populations succeed. At GAAP Dynamics, you'll find Rian pouring those creative juices into each eLearning she creates. It is important to Rian that she shares her talents in areas that provide a real service for participants and that creativity and play remain in the forefront.

Outside of the office, Rian is a visual artist working with many mediums including watercolor, pen, collage, and digital illustration. She enjoys sipping tea, changing up cooking recipes, letting her garden grow wild, getting lost around the globe, changing her identity with costumes, couch cuddles with the family, and people watching.

Superpower(s): Animation and Design. Rian has already put her animation background to work and created some amazing animated videos for our eLearning training! I am anxious for her to begin design work to help us keep our website, our collateral, and our content up-to-date and feeling fresh!

Andrew: Summer intern and video wizard

I’d be remiss not to mention we also have one of the world’s most awesome interns, Andrew! Andrew is studying film at the College of William and Mary and boy, does it show! We are so lucky to have him! In fact, we’ve been spending most of our summer trying to convince Andrew that college is overrated…fortunately (for him, not us), he is wise beyond his years and plans to stick it out. Want to learn more about Andrew and check out some of his work? Stay tuned for a future post!
