Happy Thanksgiving

Last Friday we celebrated our 2nd annual GAAPsgiving at the office. The event was organized by Rian, who joined the company in May. Interestingly, she had no idea that we had done a similar event the year before. She just wanted to get together and break bread as a team. Each person signed up to bring 1-2 dishes and appropriate beverages for such a celebratory event! As we were setting up the table, I saw Rian sitting on the couch, taking it all in, with a slight smile on her face. I asked her what she was thinking, and she replied, “I’m just really happy!” I was happy too, for we have much to be thankful for.

I couldn’t help but reflect on our first GAAPsgiving and how much things have changed in only one year.

Probably the most glaring change is the dynamic shake-up of our Richmond-based team. Five of the people at the inaugural event (Abby, Madi, Sarah, Julia, and Christine) are no longer with the company, leaving this spring during the Great Resignation for other opportunities. While we were sad to see them go, we understand that our company has been and will continue to be a launching pad for other opportunities. We are thankful for their many contributions to the company during their time here and wish them nothing but the best. Turnover is never easy, but it is especially difficult at a small company. We are committed to continually improving our company and doing what we can to reduce turnover.

However, as is often true in life, things happen for a reason. After the resignations, we were forced to go out into the market and try to rebuild our DMLS team around the only remaining DMLS team member (Patrice). Well, we hit the jackpot! We added four new DMLS team members (Rian, Kenzie, Carlo, and Clark), bringing our DMLS team back to “full strength". And the new team is much more diverse, which I am realizing is a very good thing. I am very pleased with their progress thus far and look forward to continuing to watch them grow and thrive.

Finally, last year was a bit rough for us financially. In last year’s blog, I had noted that we hoped to break even. Well, we did break even, but that was before paying employee bonuses. We decided that the employees worked too hard to not be rewarded and, thus, after paying bonuses, we ended the year with a net loss, only our second in 21 years.

But this year is looking much better thanks to our clients and the hard work of our GAAP D team! And as a “thank you” to our subscribers we would like to provide you $100 off any online eLearning course or collection available on the Revolution. Just enter the code THANKYOU2022 at checkout to redeem your reward. The code is good from now through the end of the year.

Indeed, there is much to be thankful for! During our GAAPsgiving celebration, Rian had this wonderful idea for us to write down what we were thankful for on a leaf, which she then added to our Blessing Tree (picture above). I don’t want to put everyone’s personal blessings in this public post, but I can share what I wrote:

I am thankful for my family, friends, and colleagues. Because of them I am always striving to be a better husband, father, son, friend, and leader. I often fail and when I do, I am thankful for their love, forgiveness, and grace. I am thankful for GAAP Dynamics and our clients that enable us to provide for our families and have a workplace where we can follow our passions. But most of all I am thankful to Jesus for always providing for me and my family and for His love, forgiveness, and grace.

From our family to yours…Happy Thanksgiving!
