New Online Accounting and Auditing Courses (4Q24)

Typically, the fourth quarter (October through December) is our busiest time for training with everybody trying to squeeze in their CPE by year end, and this year was no exception. We also launched a new website and sponsored the AICPA & CIMA Conference on Current SEC and PCAOB Developments in Washington D.C. Finally, during the quarter, we added several new online accounting and auditing courses to the GAAP Dynamics Learning Library, which is now included on our new website. This post provides a brief overview of these new, CPE-eligible online courses.

New online accounting courses (U.S. GAAP)

During the 4th quarter 2024, we released the following CPE-eligible, online U.S. GAAP courses:

ASC 280: Segment Reporting (1.0 CPE)

Segment reporting has always been in the top 5 issues noted by the SEC in their comment letters. In this course we explore the requirements for segment reporting in accordance with ASC 280, Segment Reporting, as updated by ASU 2023-07, as well as where companies are getting it wrong, so you won’t make the same mistakes!

Crypto Assets and the Investment Management Industry (1.5 CPE)

Fourteen years after the introduction of Bitcoin the FASB finally released guidance (ASU 2023-08) on the accounting for and disclosure of crypto assets found within ASC 350-60. This course walks through this new guidance and its impact on investment management entities.

Going Concern: Accounting and Audit Considerations (1.5 CPE)

With Chapter 11 bankruptcies on the rise, now is the perfect time to refresh your knowledge on management’s responsibilities to assess their ability to continue as a going concern under ASC 205-40, Presentation of Financial Statements – Going Concern. Auditors have their responsibilities too under AS 2415, Consideration of an Entity’s Ability to Continue as a Going Concern for PCAOB audits, or AU-C Section 570 for those audits conducted in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Well, you’re in luck because this course covers both!

This course covers the liquidation basis of accounting under ASC 205-30, with emphasis on when the liquidation basis of accounting is applicable and how it is applied, with an emphasis on common issues faced by funds in the investment management industry.

IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts: The Fundamentals (2.0 CPE)

While already effective, many companies are still dealing with the application of IFRS 17, Insurance Contracts. This course, a pre-requisite for our tailored, application-based workshops, covers the fundamentals of accounting and reporting for insurance contracts under IFRS 17 including scoping, measurement models, and presentation requirements.

Entity’s Use of a Service Organization (1.0 CPE)

Service organizations are used by entities to outsource a task or even replace whole functions of a business! But what are an auditor’s requirements when they encounter the use of a service organization by their audit client? In this course we explain what a service organization is (and isn’t), the role of the service organization’s auditor, including the types of reports issued, and an external auditor’s requirements (under both U.S. GAAS and PCAOB auditing standards).

Rising audit deficiency rates and deficiencies in firms’ quality control (QC) systems as noted in inspections have resulted in the issuance of new quality management standards around the world. For PCAOB registered firms, this means they must comply with the requirements of QC 1000, A Firm’s System of Quality Control by December 15, 2025. This course is a comprehensive review of the new requirements and the eight components of a firm’s QC system.
