IFRS 16: Leases

Description

IFRS 16 Leases introduces a single lessee accounting model and requires a lessee to recognize assets and liabilities for all leases with a term of more than 12 months, unless the underlying asset is of low value. But what qualifies as a lease under IFRS 16? How do you record leases on the balance sheet? What is the subsequent accounting? And what does "low value" actually mean? We cover those questions (and many more) in our two-course IFRS 16 CPE course collection (eligible for 2.5 CPE)!

In the first eLearning course, you'll learn to identify leases within the scope of IFRS 16 and how to record them on the balance sheet by determining the lease term, lease payments, and discount rate. This course also walks through the key concepts and provides an overview of the accounting for leases by both lessees and lessors. Topics covered include:

  • Introduction to leases
  • Identifying a lease
  • Key inputs and assumptions
  • Navigating the accounting guidance

In the second eLearning course we dive a bit deeper into the application showing you exactly how to record leases on the balance sheet, both initially and throughout the lease arrangement. This course concludes considerations you need to understand if there are changes to the lease arrangement after the commencement date. Topics covered include:

  • Initial recognition and measurement
  • Subsequent measurement
  • Changes after the commencement date

Whether you’re responsible for financial reporting or auditing financial statements under IFRS, this course is a must for the international accountant.
