Accounting Training We Got, But Must Improve Our Work-Life Balance

This past year was very busy for GAAP Dynamics and its people. Besides developing and facilitating audit and accounting training for our clients, we also underwent the process of rebranding and launched a new website. In addition, we continued to expand our product offerings, especially in the areas of eLearning design and production, and licensing options for our training materials. By all accounts we were successful, but realize that we can always get better, especially in the area of work-life balance.

Our resolutions for 2016 are:

Mike Walworth, Founder and CEO

I vow to get my work-life balance in order so that, as the CEO, I set the tone-at-the-top that this is an important cultural trait of our organization. If I “burn the midnight oil” all the time, I set a terrible example for our people that this is what is expected to succeed. Although I believe in hard work, I think successful people have to make time for their families and other pursuits outside of work.

Bob Laffler, Chief Branding Officer

I want to reinforce and strengthen our brand to give customers, regardless of the solution offered, the best learning experience possible. This includes using new technologies in the classroom and gathering customer feedback to improve our quality. I also want to live and reinforce our corporate culture, including the “work hard, play hard” mantra, which used to define our company in the early days. We are certainly working hard, but I fear the “play” may be in jeopardy.

Chris Brundrett, Chief Operating Officer

I will implement a new scheduling system and other measures to make our company more efficient. This will ensure we maintain the high-level of customer service our clients have come to expect while also improving the work-life balance of our people!

Pamela Swecker, Office Manager

I want to be more organized and manage my time better. I need to not only organize my office and files, but also everything on my computer. And I need to put a better process and schedule in place for backing everything up in order to avoid a total disaster!

Christine Leese, Director of Development

During the upcoming year I want to invest in my education and myself. I will read more regularly on a variety of topics (not just accounting!) to learn and grow. Dr. Seuss put it best when he wrote, “The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

Paul Griscom, Director of Training Products

I will become better at making and executing a prioritization list. Not only do I tend to procrastinate (cue snickers from all my current and past work colleagues), but I am also terrible at starting too many projects at one time and losing focus. My goal is to make a weekly list that is continuously monitored for prioritization to help me better organize my work and personal life and also avoid those last minute fire drills.

Vicky Hale, Director of eLearning

My resolution is to create some new, cutting-edge, awe-inspiring examples of our company’s eLearning capabilities! I want to prove that eLearning can be fun, exciting, and effective as a learning tool…just like our world-class instructor-led training!

Doug Lamb, Training Specialist

I vow to become a valued marketing and sales-team leader at GAAP Dynamics, spreading the word to prospective clients that accounting matters and getting it right is important. Our goal at GAAP Dynamics is to partner with other world-class organizations to provide their accounting professionals with the knowledge and understanding of accounting and auditing matter critical to their success.

Ben Davenport, Training Specialist

Having only been at GAAP Dynamics for 6 months, I want to learn from every gig I have and tweak my own presentation personality. Everybody has unique tricks and tips for teaching. I want to create my own effective and entertaining training style and voice, one that makes learners say, “Wow!” when they attend our sessions!

Amber Albert, Training Specialist

As the newest member of GAAP Dynamics, I want to learn to be efficient when developing course materials, including eLearning modules. I also want to become a bit more technical with respect to U.S. GAAP and IFRS, branching out from my healthcare and not-for-profit accounting knowledge. Finally, I want to get involved in a business-related organization within my community, maybe even join a Board!

From our family to yours, we wish you all the best in 2016!

Is your training on track
